Conversation with a Mc Cain Fanatic

Posted in Partido Libertario/LP by alvarezgalloso on agosto 27, 2008

While I was at a car dealership waiting for my car to be repaired, I saw Kucinich jumping up and down like the court jester of the Middle Ages whose pants caught on fire. I saw an 80 year old lady who was a Republican voting for Mc Cain. The following conversation ensued:

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: Are you voting for Mc Cain or Obama?

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: You can either vote for Mc Cain or Obama.

OHIO STRANGER: I am voting for Barr.

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: That’s a wasted vote.

OHIO STRANGER: If a vote for Barr is a wasted vote, why do the Republicans and Democrats discriminate against Independents, Libertarians, and Greens?

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: We are in a State of War. In order to preserve our freedoms, we must be at war.

OHIO STRANGER: You sound like a person who talks like Castro and Chavez. Again my question, why do the Republicans and Democrats discriminate against Independents, Libertarians, and Greens?

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: You did not accept my first excuse so I can’t give you any more except that Mc Cain is the lesser of the two evils.

OHIO STRANGER: That means that Mc Cain and Obama are evil

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: You don’t know your history. In order to preserve freedom, we must be at war in all of the world.

OHIO STRANGER: This is not necessary. A Vote for Barr would mean America First, A Withdrawal from International Organizations with the money being utilized to help our youth, reinforce our borders, and allow people to live their lives responsibly. A Vote for Barr also means less government on our backs.

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: We have to defend ourselves against the Russians and other enemies. Otherwise, we will be defeated. Look what Russia is doing to Georgia. Look at Cuba and Venezuela!! What about the fact that people in America cannot help themselves.

OHIO STRANGER: If countries want to go to war against each other, that is their problem. We cannot help the rest of the world while America is bleeding. The Republicans and Democrats even sustain dictators such as Castro and Chavez. Barr and Root means a vote for America. We must also be responsible for our actions instead of inventing enemies.

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: We must have war in order to sustain freedom, and make sacrifices yet people want the oil wells opened and alternative energy.

OHIO STRANGER: A Barr Administration will encourage Energy Independence by reducing the bureaucracy which restricts people from investigating alternative energy. A Barr Administration will prevent endless suffering by placing the US Dollar on the Gold Standard instead of floating.

OLD LADY REPUBLICAN: Ohio Stranger, you are possessed by the Devil. I will pray for you.

OHIO STRANGER: I will pray for you so that you could see the light and vote for Barr.

The Libertarian Revolution in America

Posted in Partido Libertario/LP by alvarezgalloso on agosto 26, 2008

In case you missed it, I have good news.  A new Zogby poll shows that nationally we are holding steady at 6% support from likely voters, but in several of our targeted states, we have gained ground into the double digits!

This poll silences those critics who called the first poll in early July a fluke or inaccurate.

And, as more people get to know Bob Barr and his principled stands on issues, the higher his support will grow and the more difficult it will be to deny him participation in the nationally televised debates next month and in October.

As the Democrats meet this week to officially nominate Barack Obama and Joe Biden it will become more and more apparent that when it comes to the hard issues facing our nation, they have no realistic plans for our future.  Instead, they will offer various schemes to expand numerous existing government programs, add agencies, offices and departments and generally grow the federal bureaucracy and increase our taxes.

To the extent that they even mention our federal deficit, the national debt and foreign policy, it will only be in the context of attacking George Bush and John McCain.  The biggest problems facing our nation today are being ignored in the public policy debate.

Why?  Because both the Democrats and Republicans are beholden to big-government special interests.  It’s been that way for several decades and it isn’t going to change now.

Unless . . . Millions of voters join you and me and rise up in a civil, political revolution and demand change!

While we are certainly pleased that the Bob Barr campaign is gaining momentum and attention, I would be lying if I didn’t admit that it is a long shot for us to win.  But I ask you, does it mean we lose if we don’t get the most votes on Election Day?

No, of course not.  Bob Barr is in this race to win, but that may not mean being elected the next President of the United States.

On November 5th, politicians and pundits alike won’t just be looking at vote totals to see who won  (Because right now it is practically guaranteed that whoever wins won’t get 50% of the popular votes cast).   Every observer in the media and every elected official from the State Legislature to the White House will be seeing how many votes Bob Barr got among their respective constituencies.

Every pundit and every politician knows that those courageous patriots who took the time and energy to vote for Bob Barr are a powerful force and they are the margin between victory and defeat for the future.  Furthermore, they know that Bob Barr voters aren’t voting against someone and they aren’t swayed by some cult of personality.  Bob Barr voters support the man because of what he stands for.

It isn’t about fluff or spin.  It is pure and simple.

Thanks to you and thousands of other activists, we have a strong foundation for the future in place.  As of today, there are ten weeks until the election.  Just 70 short days.

If we win 6% of the votes on Election Day, it will be historic.  But if we can double or even triple that level it will be a result that will be noticed in every community in America.

The establishment – both Republicans and Democrats alike – want you to believe you are throwing away a vote when you cast a ballot for Bob Barr.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.

That’s the message we have to get across to our target audience – which incidentally, I believe is easily large enough to win the election outright.   A strong majority of voters have already made it clear that they want a balanced budget, a reduction in our national debt, lower taxes and smaller government.

Now we just have to convince them that they are not alone in this epic campaign.

This week, Bob is already scheduled to appear on several prominent nationally-televised news programs.  He will be able to get across the differences between him and Barack Obama.  (Please be sure to encourage your friends and neighbors to pay attention to what Bob has to say!)

Next week, he will similarly have the opportunity to contrast his positions with that of John McCain.  But after that, we are in a sprint to get to the threshold required for participation in the national debates.

To win that sprint requires us to elevate campaign activities in September to a higher level.  We will need to begin broadcast advertising to build awareness of Bob’s candidacy.

But to launch this campaign, we need to raise money.  Thanks to your support we are in a great position, but I need you to help again as we raise money to buy radio and TV ads.

Please consider sending a gift of $25, $50, $100 or more to help at this critical stage of the race.

Click here to donate online or learn how you can mail in your generous gift.

Tomorrow, I hope to report to Bob when he calls in that we raised $10,000 today from grass-roots activists like you.  Thanks for your help.

Greens: Cynthia McKinney deserves to participate in the Sept. 18 presidential debate in New Orleans

Greens: Cynthia McKinney deserves to participate in the Sept. 18 presidential debate in New Orleans

• Green Party leaders cite McKinney’s advocacy of the rights of Katrina survivors and criticism of government response to the disaster, saying she will speak for displaced and excluded people of New Orleans if invited to the debate

• Greens seek an end to presidential debates limited by arbitrary criteria to the two corporate party candidates; pollsters’ omission of McKinney amounts to manipulation of the presidential race and censorship of the McKinney-Clemente campaign

• Cynthia McKinney’s speech in Denver, August 24:

WASHINGTON, DC — Green Party leaders called for the organizers of the September 18 presidential debate in New Orleans to admit other candidates along with the Democratic and Republican nominees, including Green nominee Cynthia McKinney.

The debate sponsors, Google and You Tube (, require a 15% showing in three national polls to determine which candidates may participate in the debate.

“Cynthia McKinney deserves a place in the New Orleans debate.  Any presidential candidate who has qualified for enough ballot lines to achieve the necessary electoral votes to win to be elected — regardless of poll numbers — has earned a place in the debates.  The 15% threshold is being used to exclude all candidates outside of the corporate party nominees, John McCain and Barack Obama,” said Cliff Thornton, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States.

“Ms. McKinney is more than just the candidate of a viable and growing party.  She has played a special role in the movement to help survivors of the 2005 hurricane disaster in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region.  No other presidential candidate can talk about the needs of those who’ve been displaced or otherwise affected by Katrina the way Ms. McKinney can.  Their concerns will be missing from the debate if Cynthia McKinney isn’t invited,” added Mr. Thornton.

Cynthia McKinney will appear on enough state ballots for an Electoral College victory, should she win in all these states.  For the same reason, Greens also support the inclusion of independent candidate Ralph Nader, Libertarian Party nominee Bob Barr, and Constitution Party nominee Chuck Baldwin in the New Orleans debate.

Green Party leaders said that, since pollsters are generally omitting Ms. McKinney in their research, the poll numbers are showing dishonest and manipulated results, with the McKinney-Clemente campaign effectively censored from major media coverage of the race.

“Voters deserve to know about all the names they’ll see on the ballot on Election Day, and to know which candidate best represents one’s interests and ideals.  It’s time to end debates limited to candidates approved by sponsoring corporations and pollsters,” said Green Party co-chair Sanda Everette.

Greens are appealing to New Orleans area community organizations as well as women’s, student, and human rights groups to join the demand for Cynthia McKinney’s inclusion in the New Orleans debate.

Greens note that Ms. McKinney, a member of the US House (Dem-Ga.) at the time of the hurricane, has been intimately involved in the post-Katrina survivors’ issues, and that she:

• Joined the Select Bipartisan Committee to Investigate the Preparation for and Response to Hurricane Katrina, despite the Democratic Party leadership’s call for Democratic members to boycott the committee.

• Led a congressional delegation to the site of the devastation, arranged for survivors to testify before the Commission, and inserted a 75-page supplement in the Final Report of the Katrina Commission exposing many problems not otherwise addressed.

• Introduced the first legislation concerning the clean-up toxicity in the region and restoring the homes of displaced residents.

• Tracked hundreds of bills and worked closely with other members of Congress on drafting combined legislation that addressed many survivor issues.

• Led a march across the bridge to Gretna, Louisiana, with people displaced by Katrina who had been refused passage during the hurricane; introduced a bill to deny funding to the Gretna police department because of its role in turning away thousands of hurricane survivors, mostly African Americans, at the Crescent City Connection bridge.  Ms. McKinney was the only member of Congress to join the November 7, 2005 march.

• Continues to works actively with the Reconstruction Party, a local political party in New Orleans, and in support of displaced residents’ right of return and other survivor issues.

Barr a key player in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Nevada, New Hampshire, and Virginia

Barr Reaches 11 Percent in State Poll

Barr a key player in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Nevada, New Hampshire and Virginia

Atlanta, GA – While Senators John McCain and Barack Obama spar over their houses and their vice president picks, Libertarian Party presidential nominee Bob Barr picks up steam in several battleground states that will play a key role in determining the outcome of the November election.  “It’s hard to ignore the numbers,” says Barr, who is polling in double-digits in some states according to a recent Zogby International poll released last week.

According to the poll results for 10 battleground states released on Aug. 23, Barr is polling at 11 percent in New Hampshire and 10 percent in Nevada.  Barr is also polling 8 percent in Ohio, and has similar numbers across the country.

“Americans recognize that neither John McCain nor Barack Obama are agents of change in this country,” Barr says, explaining his increasing poll numbers. “Senators McCain and Obama are the remnants of a political establishment that has failed the American people, and will continue to do so as long as voters give them a chance.  It’s time to send them a message; a message that says we will not tolerate another four years of business-as-usual in Washington.”

John Zogby, President and CEO of Zogby International, says that Barr “certainly can be” a significant factor in the upcoming election, and “can also throw McCain off balance with libertarian conservatives.”

“Liberals who are tired of the Democratic Party acting as a doormat to the government’s assault against civil liberties,” says Barr, “and conservatives who are tired of the Republican Party’s reckless abandonment of fiscal responsibility, are all potential Barr voters.  As more voters realize that neither Obama nor McCain are candidates truly dedicated to reversing these trends, you can expect to see my numbers climb steadily higher.”

Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U. S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003.

Barr to Appear in CNN [Libertarian Party]

Posted in Partido Libertario/LP by alvarezgalloso on agosto 25, 2008

As we head into the next few weeks that will be dominated by the RNC and DNC conventions, we assumed that we would not be able to break through the media until at least mid-September.

Thankfully, we were wrong.

– Tomorrow night, Bob Barr will appear for his second time on the Colbert Report

– On both Wednesday and Friday mornings, Bob will be appearing on CNN.

– And on Thursday, Glenn Beck will be taping another full hour with our candidate!

In addition to the unexpected media, we had another boost this past Friday when we learned that we’re actually climbing in the polls!

Right now, things are looking good for our campaign, but if we’re able to get into the debates, the sky is the limit.

If you put John McCain, Barack Obama and Bob Barr behind the podium, my money will be on the only candidate who can speak with honesty and sincerity in the interests of liberty — Bob Barr.

Please take the time today to show support for our candidate by making a donation, purchasing a yard sign for your home, or simply telling a few friends about Bob Barr.

Also, tune in tomorrow night to Comedy Central for “The Colbert Report” and later, I’ll let you know if we get the coveted “Colbert Bump.”

I appreciate all that you do.

In Liberty,

Open Letter to Justin Webb: Report about the Libertarian Party

Posted in Partido Libertario/LP by alvarezgalloso on agosto 25, 2008

I had the honour of reading Justin Webb’s Blog on the BBC News Website. Justin Webb wrote an article about Biden being an antidote to the “lack of foreign policy expertise” from Obama. I have decided to reply to Mr. Webb in his blog. The question in my opinion is the fact that the current choices for President [within the Republicans and Democrats] as well as the governing elite are out of touch with the domestic body in America as well as the International Body [The World]. The following is my letter to Mr. Webb and the need for the Press to address the true alternatives to the current malaise affecting America.

Dear Justin Webb:

I would like to congratulate you for a great article for the BBC News. I do not agree with you that Biden would be a necessary antidote. The problems facing the USA are deeper and cannot be resolved by the current candidates from the Republicans and Democrats.

The BBC [as well as other Western Media] would best be served by reporting on other candidates such as the Libertarian Party Ticket of Barr and Root. After all, the Libertarian Party had their convention and chose Barr and Root in free party elections. The governing elite chose their candidates ahead of the convention which means that the convention is more like a coronation.

The USA must open its political process to the alternative political parties such as the Libertarians or Greens. Instead, we have the Republicans and Democrats using Ballot Access Laws [like the ones used in Venezuela and Zimbabwe] to prevent the emergence of alternative voices to what has become a society that silences real dissent.

The alternative would be the end of the USA in 100 years if there is no political opening toward alternative parties such as the Libertarians and Greens.

McCain and Republican Party Try to Block Barr From Ballot

McCain and Republican Party Try to Block Barr From Ballot

McCain contradicts 2000 pledge to never use supporters to keep candidates from ballot

Atlanta, GA – Bob Barr’s presidential campaign has recently learned of an action by the McCain campaign and the Pennsylvania Republican Party to have Barr removed from the state’s ballot, this despite McCain’s promise in the 2000 election that he would, “never consider, ever consider, allowing a supporter of [his] to challenge [his opponent]’s right to be on the ballot in all 50 states.”

In 2000, McCain told reporters, ”Let’s not have the kind of Stalinist politics that the state of New York, the Republican Party, has been practicing.”

“This move by the McCain campaign completely contradicts everything John McCain stood for in 2000 when his competitors were trying to keep him off the ballot,” says Barr. “McCain has become a part of the same corrupted machine he spoke vehemently against only eight years ago.”

“This is America, where people have a right to run for office and a right to compete for the chance to lead the people of this nation,” Barr continues. “I look forward to the chance to compete fairly against Senator McCain for votes in Pennsylvania and every other state.”

In a recent email to supporters, Barr’s campaign manager, Russell Verney, stated that McCain’s attempt to block Barr from the ballot is one “you might expect of a dictator in North Korea, Libya, China, or Iran.”  Verney, who also was the campaign manager for Ross Perot, called the plot “a blatantly hypocritical move.”

“This move is certainly one of the more brazen attempts to lock me out of the political process,” explains Barr. “But it is simply just one more example of how the political establishment desperately clings to their own power instead of empowering the people.  The political establishment serves only themselves and not the people of this nation.  It is time candidates for the most powerful position in the world compete based on ideas and not dirty politics.”

“I challenge Senator McCain to forcefully and publicly instruct his agents to drop the lawsuit,” says Barr.

Bob Barr represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U. S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, where he served as a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, as Vice-Chairman of the Government Reform Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Financial Services. Prior to his congressional career, Barr was appointed by President Reagan to serve as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, and also served as an official with the CIA.  Since leaving Congress, Barr has been practicing law and has teamed up with groups ranging from the American Civil Liberties Union to the American Conservative Union to actively advocate every American citizens’ right to privacy and other civil liberties guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. Along with this, Bob is committed to helping elect leaders who will strive for smaller government, lower taxes and abundant individual freedom.
